The first floor of our house has been re-imagined as a modern-day larder with 23 covers to take the place of our school, now residing at Store Street.
Downstairs will be open as a place to head to for after-work drinks, charcuterie, cheese and various nibbles.
Upstairs, chef Tom will be offering a selection of dishes from our larder in a convivial, informal space.

Coffeehouses were where people went to do things; to debate, to research, to discuss” – Ed Parkes ‘Well-mannered coffee’ is the tagline used by Henry and Ed, the two dapper men behind The Gentlemen Baristas.
Over the past few centuries, this building on Union Street in Bermondsey was also the site of a coffee roastery; a green coffee bean merchants – with the proximity of the Thames making it a perfect site for trading in and storing coffee shipped to London from across the globe – and, later on in the early-to-mid twentieth century, the original headquarters of the Coffee Trade Federation.
Sticking to the theme, all of their coffees are named after Victorian-era hats, which might sound whimsical, but just down the road lays the site of a nineteenth-century hatter, where the bowler hat itself was invented.
Other intriguing historical details can be sought out by a keen eye – such as vintage coffee grinders repurposed into planters for edible gardens, that sit next to a large barbecue on their roof terrace: a week- end space where they grow and grill food for their customers.
Serving good food and coffee within a jovial atmosphere spurs on the social inter- action that took place in coffeehouses of old.

From 14 November The Gentlemen Baristas will be serving delicious food throughout the day at The Building Centre café, alongside their esteemed coffee.
Pop in to see the award-winning Gentlemen Baristas ('the coolest baristas in the UK', according to the UK Coffee Stop Awards) and enjoy the new menu.

The Gentlemen Baristas moved into The Building Centre on Store Street in late 2016.
Along with their award-winning coffee, they offer a seasonal brunch menu throughout the day, and host evening events in conjunction with their neighbours within The Building Centre.
The Store Street branch is also home to their coffee school.
Anthony, their head of coffee is on hand to offer the best education for anyone who's interested in getting the best out of their beans at home, or fine tuning their skills as a professional barista.

This applies to many things in life but for me personally, it tends to congregate among my food critic activities.
Unfortunately, I do not live in a world of rainbows and butterflies where I am paid to review and have time for multiple visits.
I will have to make sure to try the other items on display next time to give a more fulsome review.
The Gentlemen Baristas is a small and cosy place.
Best of all, I think I’ll be back several times to make a more fulsome assessment so I can address at least one of the various complaints often levelled at me.
